When I got the news from my mum, it felt like a cold slap in my face.
I am not writing this for condolences but to pass a message and I feel that if you (Mr Gaiman) come to see this in the ocean of asks you get it’ll have more impact when on your page than on mine.
Live.
As much and as fiercely as you can, live that life of yours. You don’t necessarily have to be grateful about it, everyday doesn’t have to be a happy fest of smile and giggles, you can be angry about it or sad or whatever,
but you live it cause you never know when it’ll stop, nor how much longer you have left.
Mr Gaiman I love your books but this girl that broke my heart also gifted me a beautiful and rare edition of Fragile Things, with her signature and cute stickers.
I cannot even stand to have her unblocked on social media because it hurts, even though I moved on with my life. She really broke my heart and wasn't healthy company after a while.
I can't have the book in my room with all the other books. It's on a shelf in the living room. I love the stories but don't read them because I don't want to open it. I also can't part with it. It's a damn fine and precious book, gifting such a special book with a signature to me also feels so... wrong.
Bonus points that I feel like a fragile thing myself. She also called me fragile in one of our last talks.
Imagine yourself twenty years from now. And ponder what that version of you would like you to have done with it. They might be glad you held onto it. They might be glad you gave it away. Then do whatever makes you twenty years from now happiest.
